THIS IS ENGLAND



"This Is England" written and directed by Shane Meadows is a true story based on events that took place during the directors childhood. This film examines the skinhead/punk movement of the 80's and its transition into the racist movement most are familiar with today. Illustrating the complex issue of immigration and cultural diversity in England's working class communities. The economic depression and England's engagement in the Falklands War set the backdrop for this 80's flashback, a time when 3.5 million Brits were unemployed. A great soundtrack tops it all off. Update: apparently Shane Meadows has finished a four-part series "This Is England '86" which catches up with Shaun years later. The series premiers tomorrow on British public-service television network Channel 4. Check out the trailer below.
