FISH TANK

"Fish Tank" (2009) written and directed by Andrea Arnold, follows 15 year-old Mia Willams (Katie Jarvis) as she stumbles through life on a crash course with isolation. Mia is a rebel without a cause, full of hate, anger and frustration, quick to turn on anyone who makes the mistake of interacting with her. Reason being...Mia and her younger sister Tyler (Rebecca Griffiths) are raised by their alcoholic mother in a London government housing project with no proper guidance. Both kids are GANGSTA!!! Mia finds hope in her mothers boyfriend Conner (played by Michael Fassbender), the only person that treats her with respect and honesty. The film is very real, and steers clear of script clichés. It doesn't focus on big climaxes and points of intensity, instead it flows at a realistic pace as if you were watching an unscripted documentary. Rent it when you get a chance and support good film making. Two thumbs up Brasil style. -Dread Perry-
