BATIDA RADIO

Batida started off as a weekly radio show on Portugal's 'Antena 3' station and quickly evolved into an international phenomenon. It's host DJ Mpula released 'Dance Mwangolê' last fall, an eclectic mix highlighting everything the show has come to represent...a mashup of Kwaito, Kuduro, Dancehall and Brasilian funk. I thought "Puxa" would make a nice introduction to the Radio Fazuma sound. Rudie approved. -Dread Perry-

On the last weekend of August in the United Kingdom they give the people a Bank Holiday so they can squeeze out the last bits of summer. For some it's a chance to get away from the city, for many it's a chance to experience the Caribbean at one of the biggest carnivals in the world. The parade goes around in a square but inside the route you have the hottest soundsystems blazing up the riddims from every genre. Vanya Taylor(now after seeing the video has the look to match the voice). This throwback video makes it feel like we're in the 80's and was that ever a great time for the UK music scene.
